Reproductions - Machine Printed
Offset Lithographs - Both open and limited edition (S/N) Have a flat appearance
Gicleés - Inkjet printing method. Better paper, more vibrant color
Hand Embellished – does not make it an original
Remarqué – Original sketch done on both reproductions and hand-pulled prints
Canvas Prints & Transfers – Come complete with brushstrokes
Original Prints - Hand Pulled
Linocuts & Relief Prints – Strong lines, often large areas of ink. May have plate mark.
Chine Collé - allows finer detail and more delicate papers
Collagraph – The collages of the print world! Items (often fabric) are placed onto a plate and inked.
Monotypes – Created on a matrix that can only be printed once
Monoprints – Created on a matrix that can e re-inked. Each impression will have different colors.
Engraving – Lines scribed directly on a metal (usually copper) plate
Etching – Lines scribed onto a wax ground and cut & deepened by acid bath
Aquatint – Chemical treatment to increase texture and tonal range
Wood Cuts – Usually see texture and grain from the wood
Wood Engravings – Very fine lines
Stone Lithographs – Have a waxy look
Modern Lithographs – Use Mylar ‘plates’
Silkscreen/Serigraphs – Stencil process
