Brenda Singletary

Nationally known, Brenda Singletary, a professional artist for over 20 years, is noted for her versatility. Her original pieces done in oil, enamel, acrylic, gold leaf and pastels range from figurative, abstract to floral, and landscapes.


Singletary, an alumnus of Morris Brown College in Atlanta, worked several years in television broadcasting before deciding on an art career in 1985. Singletary's work is represented in art galleries across the country as well as corporations, such as IBM, Coca-Cola, Kaiser Permanente, Bellsouth, Wachovia, Marriott Hotels, Delta Airlines, Century Fox Television and many others. Collectors of Singletary's work include Hank Aaron, Terry McMillan and Andrew Young.


Brenda Singletary is a community service artist. Her Atlanta television broadcast experience coupled with an artistic dedication, has created a unique art career that is centered around projects that help and support the community's non profits. She has raised funds for organizations such as The March of Dimes, The Frazer Center, 100 Black Women, 100 Black Men, The College Fund, The Atlanta Day Shelter, The National Black MBA Association, Senior Connections, Our House, and many others.

 

Singletary served two years as a panel judge for The President's Commission on White House Fellows. A particular career highlight was the commissioning of Ms. Singletary to create a piece of art for President Clinton and the White House Fellows Program. Her art currently hangs in the conference room of The White House Fellows Administrative Office, and is part of the permanent art collection of The White House.

In 2001, Singletary was invited by The White House as the guess lecturer for a luncheon hosted by the President's Commission on White House Fellows to Speak on current events and express her individual views on life as an african american artist.

Collectors of Ms. Singletary's work include: Andrew Young, Hank Aaron, U.S. Senator Zell Miller, Georgia's Attorney General Thurbert Baker, Actresses Phylicia Rashad, Dianne Carrol, Hattie Winston and Shari Belefonte, Marion Wright Edelman of the Children Defense Fund. Athlete Warren Moon and Kwesi Mfume, Executive Director of the NAACP, Novelist Terry McMillan.

Awards and Grants presented to Ms. Singletary include; Artist Grant 2003, Woodruff Art Center and ,American Express, Cultural Arts Award- Morris Brown College, Golden Sable Award-The College Fund-U.N.C.F., Atlanta Business League, DaimlerChrysler-Motion Through Art Competition, and numerous others.
